About
My name is Katie Agnello. I am a rising senior in high school, working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. My project, Katie's Kitchen, is all about teaching teens leaving home for the first time about healthy eating on a with limited materials, money, and time.
"The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, recognizing girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through remarkable Take Action projects that have sustainable impact in their communities-and beyond." - Girl Scouts
Gaining the "Freshman 15" and keeping properly nourished are problems often faced by college students and other young adults who have to take care of themselves for the first time. My project is addressing the issue of ignorance in teens on how to prepare healthy foods, keep meals convenient, and still stay within a budget. Through cooking classes and this website, I hope to educate teenagers leaving the home for the first time about healthy eating that is easy to make and good for those on a budget.
I have an interest in cooking and a desire to eat healthier. I began researching for my own purposes about healthy eating in college since I knew this would be an issue I would soon face. In doing this research, I realized that the lack of education in young, college-aged teens of how to prepare healthy meals and I decided that I wanted to use the opportunity of the Gold Award project to educate others on ways to cook healthy foods in college or just generally for use outside of "mom's kitchen".
